Stephen is currently a PhD student in Sociology at the University of California, San Diego. His dissertation research examines the ways in which a diverse group of grassroots disabled persons organizations in Nicaragua are interpreting and seeking to institutionalize the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Stephen’s areas of concentration are cultural sociology, development, human rights, and social movements. In addition to his academic work, Stephen has worked for a variety of NGOs and IOs in the areas of disability inclusion, landmine survivor assistance, and training.
