Peter is the Dr. E.P. Clapp Distinguished Professor of Politics, and chair of the Urban & Environmental Policy Department, at Occidental College. He earned his PhD. in sociology from the University of Chicago. In addition to his latest book, The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century: A Social Justice Hall of Fame (Nation Books, 2012), he has co-authored three books on urban politics and policy. He writes frequently for The Nation, American Prospect, the Los Angeles Times, New Labor Forum, Truthout, and Huffington Post. He is co-chair of the Cry Wolf Project and works with a number of labor, community organizing, and public interest groups engaged in strategic issue campaigns and movement-building. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology and urban studies at the University of Chicago.
