Michael is Assistant Professor of Organizational Studies and Political Science at the University of Michigan. Prior to coming to Michigan, Michael received a Ph.D. in Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Chicago, held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Center for the Study of American Politics at Yale University, served as a congressional fellow on the staff of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and worked as Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Florida. His research focuses on the consequences of informal organizational structures for the politics of interest groups, political parties, and social movements in the United States. He is writing a book with Fabio Rojas of Indiana University, which is tentatively titled Party in the Street: The Antiwar Movement and the Democratic Party after 9/11.
