Kenneth (Andy) Andrews is Professor and Chair of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He studies the influence of protest and social movements on pubic policy and social change. His book – Freedom is a Constant Struggle (2004) – examined the impact of the civil rights movement on electoral politics, school desegregation, and social policies. In two recent projects, he studied leadership, participation, and public influence of environmental organizations. Current projects examine the civil rights campaigns to desegregate public facilities, the diffusion of local prohibition laws, and the influence of environmental advocacy.
