Joseph is Assistant Professor in the School of Public Affairs at American University. His research interests include terrorism, civil wars, human rights and political violence. He has published across scholarly disciplines, including political science, economics, international studies, and criminology. His recent work has appeared in Journal of Politics, Perspective on Politics, Public Choice, International Studies Quarterly, International Studies Review, and Journal of Peace Research. The National Science Foundation and the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) have funded his research.
