Efe Can Gürcan (M.A. in International Studies, University of Montréal) is a PhD student in sociology at Simon Fraser University, and holds a SSHRC-Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Doctoral Scholarship – Category A. His research interests lie in the areas of Marxism, political sociology (social movements and the state), Latin America (Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina), food studies, and Turkish politics and society. His recent and upcoming publications include an article on imperialism and NATO in Socialism & Democracy, an article on Cuban agrarian movements in Latin American Perspectives, an article on the political economy of “food security” in Rural Sociology (co-authored with Gerardo Otero and Gabriela Pechlaner), a review essay on food sovereignty in Kasarinlan, an article on regionalism in Journal of Social Research & Policy, and several book chapters on class diets under neoliberalism, Cuba, Turkey, and Gramsci and regionalism, respectively.
