Brian Powell

Brian is the James H. Rudy Professor of Sociology at Indiana University and a board member of the Council on Contemporary Families. He is coauthor—with Catherine Bolzendahl, Claudia Geist, and Lala Carr Steelman—of COUNTED OUT: Same-Sex Relations and Americans’ Definitions of Family (Russell Sage Foundation/American Sociological Association Rose Series, 2010). In addition to continuing to explore public views regarding gender, family, and sexuality, he, along with Kristin Jordan and Oren Pizmony-Levy, is examining public opinion on college access and the value of post-secondary education.
