Amy Kate Bailey

Amy Kate Bailey is assistant professor of sociology at the University of Illinois—Chicago.  Her research focuses on race and inequality, with an historical line of work on lynching in the American south, and a more contemporary field of work investigating the individual and community effects of the U.S. military.  Her current projects include a book manuscript, co-authored with Stewart E. Tolnay, on the characteristics of individual lynch victims, an NSF-funded data collection effort focusing on individuals threatened with lynching, and a series of papers on communities that send a high proportion of their young adults into the armed forces.
