Amy Binder

Amy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at UC San Diego. Her research interests are in the areas of education, culture, organizations, and movements, all of which are reflected in her forthcoming co-authored book Becoming Right: How Campuses Shape Young Conservatives (Princeton University Press, Fall 2012). Her previous book, Contentious Curricula: Afrocentrism and Creationism in American Public Schools (Princeton University Press 2002) is a comparative study of marginal challenges to public school systems and school systems’ responses to those challenges, and won several book prizes, including the Best Book Prize from the Culture Section of the American Sociological Association and the Distinguished Scholarship Award from the American Educational Research Association.
