Abby is Professor of Sociology, and Women’s and Ethnic Studies, and Director of the Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion at University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Oregon in 1994. She is the author of numerous articles and books including, White Man Falling: Race, Gender and White Supremacy (Rowman & Littlefield, 1998); co-author of Making a Difference: University Students of Color Speak Out, (Rowman & Littlefield 2002); and co-edited three volumes: Privilege: A Reader (Westview Press 3rd ed. 2013); The New Basics: Sex, Gender and Sexuality (Oxford University Press, 2nd ed. 2012) and The Matrix Reader: Examining the Dynamics of Privilege and Oppression (McGraw Hill, 2008). She is on the national planning team for the annual White Privilege Conference, and co-founder and co-facilitator of the Knapsack Institute: Transforming Teaching and Learning, both projects of the Matrix Center.
