Jean Yen-chun Lin is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Chicago with research interests in comparative political sociology, social change, and environmental sociology. Her current research focuses on social movement leadership and leadership strategies in authoritarian countries such as China, and their roles in determining protest outcomes. In particular, she examines how the dynamics of state-leader interactions mutually create crucial junctures and turning points in protests which largely contribute to differentiated protest results. She has also done extensive research on non-governmental organizations in the US, China, and Taiwan.
